Brand:
BEST Smoked Malt is a malt from Bestmalz smoked over beechwood, used for beers with a smoky note and also for whisky production.
It gives beer a typical smoky character reminiscent of a campfire and smoked ham. Thanks to its high enzyme activity it can make up the entire grist.
Use in the recipe:
- Adds smoke and smoked-ham aroma
- Can be used as part of the grist or as the whole grist
- Also suitable for whisky
Recommended styles:
- Rauchbier and other smoked beers
- Export
- Wheat beer
- Porter
- Bock
For a first brew, start with about 10% of the grist and increase as needed. The full smoke aroma usually only develops after fermentation and lagering.
